Ready for my June book club meeting! And yes, that's rosé in my mug! Unpopular opinion... I didn't love this book. There were moments when the writing pulled me in but for the most part I just didn't connect with the characters. Also on-again-off-again relationships are a huge turnoff for me in real life and apparently in books too. This one didn't live up to the hype for me but I always enjoy a book discussion with friends. #bookstagram #bookclub #fiction #obamareadinglist #normalpeople #sallyrooney #unpopularopinions #ireland #wanderlust #booksandbooze #ros #zoom #zoommeeting #virtualbookclub #socialdistancing #quarantine #readathome

Yesterday I finished NORMAL PEOPLE; it was very nice to read. The author depict the relationship insightfully and realistically. Although it was very good, it was just not my type of book. If I saw the TV adaptation first I probably would not read the book. Because I like to watch romance movie but I do not read romance; just like I read scary story quite well but I couldn’t imagine I’m watching horror movie cause the sound effects are making it much more scarier. 😑. . Anyway, it was really good story and beautifully written book. I will definitely recommend it for those who love boy-meets-girl love story. 😍. . . #estelle_reads_2020 . . #booksandcoffee #bookstagram #booklover #currentlyreading #igreads #lovetoread #normalpeople #sallyrooney #책 #책스타그램 #북스타그램

Author profile!🤍 • Sally Rooney has been one of my favorite authors to research so far--I sometimes find myself giving too much time to American books and authors and was fascinated by the (foregin-to-me) Irish landscape of Normal People🤍It’s easy to pay attention only to the romantic and dramatic parts of this story, seeing as how addictive they are to contemplate and identify with. But, as you may have noticed, Sally Rooney uses current Irish and world politics to enhance and sometimes distance the relationship between characters. I won’t pretend to know the ins and outs of the political climate in Ireland right now, but the conversations around class, international affairs, and elections in the novel certainly speak to Rooney's interest in and ability to comment on radical politics💭 • In so many of her interviews, Rooney expresses her discomfort being in the spotlight or being praised for her work, so I won’t spend this space analyzing or guessing the kind of person she is; insightful and original, I’ll leave it at that! 🤍I’ll paraphrase from an interview I read: Rooney said how shocked she was that an average girl like herself could have been so successful in the literary community, how her voice and her stories (also, about average people) could have made such a statement with readers. As I read this book, I kept mentioning to friends how it seemed like her writing was personally meditative; in the best way, I could see how Rooney identified with both characters. The more I read about Rooney, the more I understand how Connell and Marianne’s conversations about politics, competitions with social status, and contemplations on intellectualism is reflective of Rooney’s own experience. • These caption spaces aren’t big enough for what I want to say about this author, how her story makes the narrative in Normal People so much more understandable, but if you want to talk about some of the interviews (The Guardian, NewYorker) please comment below!!!🤍💭

I took a much needed break to spend an afternoon at the beach with family. Not wanting to get sand or water on my iPad (where I was reading a book on the nook app), I traded it for Normal People by Sally Rooney, which had just arrived in the mail. I’m about 2/3 of the way done and I’m definitely intrigued by Marianne and Connell. The writer’s style is different than most books I read and it’s taken me a bit to adjust to the lack of quotation marks. I have definitely been pulled into the story, though, and I’m especially loving that it’s set in Ireland. 💚🇮🇪 * #amreading #currentread #currentlyreading #normalpeople #sallyrooney #capemay #capemaynj #capemaynewjersey #beach #ocean #sea #clouds #travel #travelphotography

Okay, The Washington Post was not lying! I literally read this in one sitting. Could not put it down. #sallyrooney #normalpeople I don’t know how the TV series compares to this but there was so much depth to this book. Many unexpected events, one right after the other, it just kept me up all night.

Normal people by Sally Rooney - 🌟🌟🌟🌟 I love a good ol controversial book and got the impression that not many people was a fan of this book! But I did really love this book❤️ I love a good romance read and this was right up my street! But it’s not your normal typical romance book and I loved that it was different and involved so much more than Marianne and Connells relationship but I loved them both separate as they went through their struggles. It explores how a real and raw relationship where not everything is perfect and be frustrating which made it more believable. It also covers a range of taboo topics with emotional abuse, social acceptance and in some events in the book actually made me feel uncomfortable and I love how Sally Rooney incorporates this feeling. Honestly the speech marks didn’t even phase me compared to others and I loved her writing style that captured the main points in the story and just loved it! I spent my day, binge watching normal people on BBC. I feel that it did miss out other important points compared to the book. Can I just point out the ending? Like can someone explain it to me because I want there to be another series. What was everyone else’s views of this book and the series? #bookstagram #bookreview #4star #normalpeople #sallyrooney

Connell and Marianne’s relationship is…. wow a lot of things. Based on a rare mutual understanding of each other that extends and grows over time, one thing they seem to always fall short of is an interest in or acknowledgment of each other's families. As readers, we see what goes on at Marianne’s house and can conclude that her home life, relationship with her father and mother, and treatment from her brother largely shape who she becomes in relationships with others. But Connell is none the wiser. 💭The only people who get a real perspective on Connell and Marianne’s families are us readers. • • So here’s my question for all of you: How important is it to be with someone who’s family is similar to your own? Or on the contrary, is it more important to be with someone who’s family is vastly different? 🤍 • • I’d love to hear your thoughts on how family differences affected Connell and Marianne or ANY other characters you’ve read!! • • • • • #bookstagram #books #booksaremylife #booksandcoffee #booksbooksbooks #booksofinstagram #novels #novelwriting #sallyrooney #normalpeople #normalpeopleedit #normalpeoplereview #bookreview #bookaddict #authors #authorsofinstagram #booksof2020 #bookrecommendations
